Classroom Awards & Google Reader

It’s the end of the year and time for Classroom Awards! How do you recognize your students at the end of the year? Last year, I wanted to recognize my students for their individual efforts and unique personalities. I created my Classroom Awards & Certificates for Primary Students and they are available in Chevron, Stripes, and Polka Dots!

I love having the families join us as I give out these awards. I always describe the award and tell why I have chosen the particular student who is receiving it. The students LOVE trying to guess who is going to receive each award! This year after our awards ceremony, I had the sweetest grandfather thank me for doing individualized awards. He said he knew it meant so much for his grandson to be recognized as the “Marvelous Mathematician” and he could see what a positive classroom environment we have! Here are a few more sweet comments from other teachers via TeachersPayTeachers!

Classroom Awards in Polka Dots

So, I’m sure many of you have heard that Google Reader is going away on July 1st. This comes as no surprise to me… This time last year Google Friend Connect went away for all blogs not hosted with Blogger. This is the very reason why I LOVE WordPress! I love that I always have control of my blog’s content… There are a few new ways that you can follow all of your favorite blogs. I have added Networked Blogs and Bloglovin’ to my sidebar. I would love for you to follow my blog using one of these great services! You can also follow along via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Email! How are you making the transition away from Google Reader? What service will you be using to read your favorite blogs?

As a special thanks for following my blog (and reading this far!), I will send a copy of my Classroom Awards to the first THREE people who follow my blog via Bloglovin’ or Networked Blogs. Leave a comment with the service you chose and be sure to leave your email and choice of awards (chevron, polka dots, or stripes). Thanks for reading!

Summer Bucket List!

I am so excited that Summer is almost here! I’m joining in with the Summer Bucket List linky party hosted by A Cupcake for the Teacher, Miss Kindergarten, and A Modern Teacher.

summer bucket list linky (2)The most important item on my Summer Bucket List is to spend time getting to know our little girl. I am almost 9 months pregnant and have a c-section scheduled for June 3rd! We are so excited about welcoming our baby girl into our family… most of my time this summer will be spent navigating the waters of new motherhood! My husband and I have a lot to learn, and thankfully we have all summer to figure it out!

Sarah Elise at 35 weeks… love those chubby cheeks!

Running QuoteAs soon as I can, I want to begin running again. I continued running up until week 26 of my pregnancy and then my feet began to swell. For the past 3 months I’ve only been able to fit into one pair of flip flops! I’m so excited to fit into my running shoes again and begin training. I want to work towards a half-marathon since I was unable to run the Savannah Rock-n-Roll half last November. I decided not to run since I had just found out I was pregnant and had yet to see my doctor. I LOVE our jogging stroller (Bumbleride Indie) and can’t wait to spend many early mornings out on a run with Sarah!

photoWe have a trip planned to Orange Beach this summer! We will be there for my 30th birthday and it will be Sarah’s first road trip! I am so excited about this time to get away from Atlanta and relax with our family!

beachI have a TON of new products to add to Polka Dot Parlor! I also want to spend time planning out blog posts for the new school year, as well as create new materials for my TpT store. I will not be teaching next year, as my husband and I have decided that I will stay home with Sarah. I am so excited and grateful for this opportunity to spend time with her while she is so young. I will miss teaching, however I still plan to stay active with blogging and creating activities and resource packets.

Classroom Awards!

Every year I look forward to recognizing my students unique abilities on Awards Day! I  have the students nominate each other for awards and then I use their suggestions when choosing awards for each student. It amazes me how the students put a lot of thought into their nominations and they usually match up pretty well with the award that I had in mind for each student. I also give out an award for Perfect Attendance and the top 2 AR readers in our classroom.

This year I decided to create my own awards. I made these on Sunday and I LOVE how they turned out. I can’t decide which set I like better… the chevron pattern or the stripes? This packet includes 33 awards including Perfect Attendance for grades K-3, AR Super Star, Marvelous Mathematician, Handy Helper, Peer Teacher, and many more! I have included a freebie for you below and have listed both sets of awards on TPT if you are interested. Make sure you follow my blog on Facebook for updates! Happy Summer!

Click on the picture above to download your freebie from TpT! This freebie includes the Hard Worker award, Computer Whiz award, Amazing Artist award, and the Sharing & Caring award. If you download this item, I would love for you to leave feedback! Enjoy!
